Pickled!

No, this doesn't refer to my Aviation experiment.  It's this kind of pickle....

I keep hearing how easy it is to pickle, can, make cheese, raise chickens, cook your own meth--oh no, that's Breaking Bad.  I found little pickling cucumbers at the farmer's market today (5 for a dollar!) and a recipeon foodgawker.  

Quarter cucumbers lengthwise.

 

Add one medium onion, sliced.

 Place spices (I used dill and McCormick pickling spice) water, vinegar, salt, sugar and garlic in a pot and bring to a simmer.  They said garlic was optional.

Not in my house it isn't.  Simmer for 2-3 minutes and then turn off heat and steep x 5 minutes.  Meanwhile place cukes/onions in clean glass jars.  Then pour in hot pickling liquid.  Cool for 15 minutes, and then refrigerate for at least 24 hours.

 They are pickling as we speak, the cucumbers, that is.
